CCC Releases a Statement Regarding Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander Community

CLOVIS, CALIF.,—March 22, 2021, The Central California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (CCC) stands in solidarity with the Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander community to denounce the senseless hateful acts perpetrated against their community. The recent targeted attacks in Atlanta in which eight innocent people were murdered, six of which were women of Asian descent, bring deep pain, anguish, and sadness to all of us. No one should ever have to live in fear or experience discrimination because of race or the color of their skin. We cannot stand aloof as we witness the campaign of hate against our neighbor.

We call on all of us, as Christians, to unitedly express our collective condemnation of such acts against humanity. We align with those working to improve and recognize the human value of diversity. The Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander community is a vital part of the human fabric, and we are all the better for it. We need to live the love of Christ in our everyday walk, as He taught us, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39).

God operates from a foundation of love. Everything in His government is motivated by love. Therefore, His Church should operate from the same foundation. If a Christian loves God, that Christian must also love his neighbor. It is a biblical imperative.

May that love shine every day through each of us in very vivid and tangible ways in our local communities, especially within the Asian community. Let us be the conduit of His love to our neighbor is our prayer.

The CCC was established in the year 1911 and has grown to where today there are 34,133 members, 150 congregations, and 29 schools, over a territory of 17 counties in California. Currently there are 19 congregations of CCC that are designated as Asian- American or Pacific Islander. In addition, there are Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander members in other congregations of CCC.
